• In order to ensure that the baby is being placed in a secure and stable environment, Angels Resource Families must undergo multiple steps in order to complete the resource family approval process. For example, the Home Environment Assessment ensures that your home is a suitable environment for foster children.

  • The basic requirements for becoming an Angels Resource Parent are as follows:

    ·       A resident of Santa Barbara County or Southern San Luis Obispo County

    ·       Financially stable

    ·       Family has a full-time parent

    ·       Parents are between the ages of 25 and 70

    ·       In good overall health (physical and emotional)

    ·       Have a safe home with appropriate space

    ·       Youngest child in the home is no younger than 2 years of age

  • Completing the approval process typically takes between two to six months. Because much of the timeline depends on your availability and pace, families who are eager to move forward can often complete it in as little as two months. Whatever your schedule looks like, Angels is here to support and guide you every step of the way.

  • The required background checks and first aid/CPR trainings are provided by outside agencies and cost approximately $150 per person. With receipts, these costs may be able to be reimbursed by CWS at the time of adoption.

  • Our training and preparation process is designed to ensure you feel completely confident, supported, and ready to welcome a child into your home. Throughout the approval journey, you will gain deep insight into four core areas:

    • Navigating the Foster Care System

      Understand how the child welfare system works, including the court process, legal timelines, and the primary goal of family reunification. You'll learn how Angels collaborates with local agencies to advocate for the best interests of every child.

    • Infant & Toddler Care and Development

      Young children and babies have unique physical, emotional, and developmental needs. You’ll learn about trauma-informed care, early childhood development, attachment building, and how to create a safe, nurturing environment tailored to infants and toddlers.

    • Comprehensive Support & Community Resources

      You are never on this journey alone. We will introduce you to the extensive network of resources available to your family, including clinical guidance, peer support networks, respite care, and community partnerships.

    • Life as an Angels Resource Family

      Get a clear, honest picture of what day-to-day life looks like with a placement. From home visits and medical appointments to managing transitions, we’ll help you set realistic expectations and prepare your household for this rewarding experience.
